Projecting what the future holds is an important exercise for business and governments looking to plan ahead. In our first edition of , we look ahead to the trends we expect to come to the fore in the global economy in the year to come. Our projection is conditional on a successful deployment and spread of effective COVID vaccines and continued accommodative fiscal, financial and monetary conditions. Nevertheless, the next three to six months will continue to be challenging, particularly for the Northern Hemisphere countries going through the winter months as they could be forced to further localised or full economy-wide lockdowns as recently displayed in the UK. Output in some advanced economies, for example, could contract in Q1 of the year. We think that economic growth is more likely to pick up in the second half of the year, which is also when we expect large advanced economies to have vaccinated a substantial share of their population. By the end of or early , we expect the global economy to revert to its pre-pandemic level of output.

International Economics is an exciting and dynamic subject that equips students with the tools with which to tackle important real-world issues in this age of globalisation and financial integration. International Economics is the study of economic interactions between countries. It addresses many topical issues, such as:. How is the rapid growth of trade with China and India likely to affect the structure of production and wages in Europe? Why have trade negotiations in the Doha round of the WTO come to a standstill? What are the effects of European Monetary integration? How is the UK affected by its decision not to join the Euro?
The MSc in International Political Economy IPE offers a multidisciplinary perspective on international economic and power relations, essential to understanding an increasingly globalised world. The study of international political economy is the study of interactions between markets and politics; the influence of markets on politics and the influence of policy on markets. The core of IPE is international money and international finance, and there is a particular focus on the financial crisis, its causes and its consequences. Other central topics include international trade and investment, which looks at the drivers of market globalisation and factors which shape the flow of trade and investment, and the international political economy and the environment, specifically, what impedes a genuine agreement on climate change. The U. But Washington was in the grip of economic nationalists battling a historic economic downturn. Within a few years, the United States ramped up economic pressure on Japan, culminating in a trade and oil embargo. Six years after Grew wrote his dispatch, the two countries were engaged in total war. Today, American policymakers are consumed by the economic and geopolitical confrontation with another Asian heavyweight.
We identify three themes this year:
ICC AOKpass, a risk mitigation tool, is a scalable solution that enables governments and border authorities to reopen cross border travel safely and efficiently. Essential rules for international and domestic contracts, setting out responsibilities between buyers and sellers for costs, delivery and risks. You need only one member of staff for up to students; all the necessary instructions can be given to the participants within 2 minutes; and there are many economic 'lessons' that can be drawn from the game. Students are divided into teams, each of which acts as a separate 'country', with between two and ten students in each team. There are five or six countries in a game. A game thus can be played with between 10 and 60 students.

At its centre have always been questions of human welfare and how these might be related to state behaviour and corporate interests in different parts of the world. Despite this, major approaches in the field have often focused more on the international system perspective. A side effect of this has been the relative neglect of non-elites and an all-too-often missing recognition of ordinary individuals.
